This gene is localized on the distal long arm of the X chromosome q28, with 13 exons spanning 20kb. This enzyme is a dimer and each monomer contains 515 amino acids with a molecular weight of 59,256Da. The active enzyme occurs in a dimeric form with bound NADP. The binding site for NADP is located at amino acid 205.
